UNILORIN, FUTA refuse to join ASUU strike
While the UNILORIN ASUU Chairman says the school was not informed about the strike, the ASUU Chairman in FUTA said the school on Wednesday.
Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, the University of Ilorin and the Federal University of Technology, Akure chapters have refused to join the ASUU strike called on Sunday, November 4, 2018.
According to Channels Television, the branch chairman of ASUU, Uthman Abdulraheem at the University of Ilorin said UNILORIN didn’t join the strike because the school was not officially communicated to by the union.
He added that the inability to resolve the alleged sacking of 41 lecturers by the university years ago was responsible for not joining the industrial action called by the national body, Channels reports.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of FUTA chapter of ASUU, Dr Bola Oniya has explained the reason why FUTA did not join the strike when it was called.
A statement issued on Monday, November 5, 2018, states that FUTA would not embark on strike until Wednesday, November 7, 2018, after its local congress.
Recall that ASUU on Monday, November 5, 2018, declared an indefinite nationwide strike.
